Brain implants and personality changes

I recently read about companies like Elon Musk's Neuralink, which promise medical applications such as treating Parkinson's, dementia or Alzheimer's, as well as restoring mobility for the paralyzed or sight for the blind. However, researchers have also raised concerns that these implants may affect patients' personalities, and not just in positive ways. It's clear that despite the billionaire's full-bodied pronouncements, the technology is still in its infancy and there are studies examining how brain implants interact with the human mind, with some frightening results.

The potential effects of brain implants on personality is an active area of research, and while some studies show positive changes in self-perception and identity, there are also concerns about unwanted effects. Some researchers have observed that some patients experienced unusual behavioral changes, which they have described as changes in personality or expressions of sexuality. Patients have reported feelings they did not recognize themselves in, and in some cases even attempted suicide. While the technology is still in its infancy, more studies are needed to examine the long-term effects of brain implants on patients' personality and behavior.
