Between technical jargon and patient understanding: The hurdles of medical communication

Communication between doctors and patients is a fundamental aspect of healthcare that is often complicated by a seemingly insurmountable barrier: technical language. While doctors juggle complex terminology every day, patients often reach their limits when it comes to understanding medical information. This mismatch between jargon and patient understanding represents a serious barrier to effective healthcare.

Fast

Therapeutic fasting is absolutely trendy and I had already heard and read a lot about it. Our entire "system" has been geared towards longer phases "without food" from the very beginning. Nowadays, however, people eat almost continuously, whether because of hunger, appetite, boredom, grief or frustration, etc. The food industry does not necessarily serve us what counts as a balanced diet. Flavor enhancers, dyes, emulsifiers, preservatives, sugar, fast food and the like make us ill in the long run and we slowly develop food allergies and inflammatory processes in the body. I wanted to give my body a break from it and be surprised by the positive effects of therapeutic fasting despite or precisely because of my previous illnesses (ulcerative colitis and Parkinson's disease).

What you need to know about Parkinson's

When a person with Parkinson's or a relative wants to find out about a possible disease, accompanying symptoms play a crucial role. These can affect different parts of the body, including skin, skeleton, sensory organs and psyche. The severity and occurrence of these symptoms vary from person to person, and it is important to note that some symptoms may have other causes.

Produodopa. The new medication standard?

However, the  perspectives changed fundamentally with the introduction of Produodopa®, a subcutaneous infusion solution. Continuous infusion over 24 hours using a portable pump ensures more constant effective levels. The crucial advantage for all of us is that no surgery is required to insert the subcutaneous cannula. This less invasive treatment option is a huge relief for all of us.

New medical guidelines for Parkinson's disease

A new medical guideline on Parkinson's has been available for a few days now.

But what is a medical guideline and how and where is it used?

A medical guideline is a documented procedure for diagnostics and therapy in specific medical areas.

It is based on current scientific findings and clinical experience and serves to ensure and improve the quality of patient care.

Guidelines provide recommendations on how to approach specific diseases or conditions to achieve the best patient outcome.

They are created by professional societies or other medical organizations and are often an important source of information and decision-making aid for doctors and medical staff.

Cell therapies and what you need to know about them

Cell therapy is a revolutionary medical technique that aims to treat disease or injury at the cellular level. This approach has the potential to eclipse traditional therapies that focus primarily on symptom relief.

Advantages of cell therapy:

Targeted Treatment: Unlike traditional therapies, which often affect the entire body, cell therapy can directly target the affected tissue or organ, which can minimize side effects.
Potential for permanent cure: Rather than just treating symptoms, cell therapy aims to address the cause of the disease. This means it has the potential to provide permanent or long-lasting cures.
Use of the body's own cells: In many cases, the patient's cells are used, which reduces the risk of rejection or incompatibilities.

Right now, episode 61 with Frank Elstner

After more and more "Parkies" joined our project PingPongParkinson-VR and we already have our own ranking list, the step to the first tournament was only logical.

In the future, the "International PingPongParkinson-VR-ChampionShip" will take place on the first Sunday of each quarter.

We start unscheduled on Sunday February 5th at 18pm. Anyone with Parkinson's disease and who has the technical requirements for the TT simulation "ELEVEN TT" (VR glasses Quest1 or 2) can take part.

The tournament will be broadcast live on twitch and youtube. Interested parties should please apply as soon as possible, since only 20 starting places can be allocated in the first tournament.
