Kickstart into 2023: Begin your year of movement with the attitude of a marathon runner

Let's turn your goals into habits

Our author Dr. Mareike Schwed has once again come up with something very special. She knows exactly how important movement is for us, which is determined by Parkinson's life.
That is why she offers a free impulse workshop at the beginning of the year, which we can only warmly recommend to everyone.

sleep and Parkinson's disease

Gabi Fastner's movement shorts

Who of us affected does not know them, the daily problems with a stiff neck, the problem of walking upright, dizzy spells, sudden tiredness, heavy legs, back pain...

Gabi Fastner has taken on these everyday hurdles and shows us in 12 clips what you can do about it.

Parkinson's and virtual table tennis

But with the increasing application possibilities of VR software (virtual reality), combined with a falling price of the necessary devices, we are currently experiencing a paradigm shift. From the very beginning of computer games, sports simulations have emerged today that have reached an unprecedented level of realism in the virtual world.

First and foremost is the table tennis simulation Eleven TT, which is unparalleled in terms of its realism and is gaining more and more recognition as a “real” sport on both a national and international association level.

Parkinson's at a young age - about help and self-help

largely unnoticed by the public, the people who develop Parkinson's are getting younger and younger. It is now no longer uncommon for the neurodegenerative disease to appear even before the age of 30.

This naturally poses a particular challenge for the medical profession, given the variety of symptoms in younger people, Parkinson's is least likely to be suspected.

Detlev Friedriszik: With movement against Parkinson's

The main speaker is Detlev Friedriszik, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's 17 years ago. Since then he has been fighting against the relentless progression of the disease, trying to help others with his knowledge and experience and always staying positive despite all the odds.

His credo is "Instead of waiting in the corner in an armchair for new medicine, become active yourself and keep your mobility for as long as possible with sport". Always looking for the most suitable type of movement for him, he came across the so-called Smovey rings 14 years ago.

Smovey rings are a comparatively simple piece of sports equipment, imagine a ring in which three or four balls always move in the opposite direction to the movement of the ring.
Detlev Friedriszik quickly discovered the positive influence certain exercises had on the progressive stiffening of his muscles and the reduction in his range of motion.

Mission Parkinson

Stacey Macaluso from the USA, for example, has launched a platform that offers new exercise offers weekly, either as webinars or videos, free of charge for people with Parkinson's.

But she does not leave it at that, but combines her offer with political demands. She explains the connection between the Parkinson's diagnosis and environmental toxins. Just recently it emerged that the US appears to be importing fertilizers that are already on the US red list from other countries and using them in agriculture. Stacey has made it his mission to draw attention to this scandal and collect signatures and change the law. She says: “My community is working on these laws and sharing resources. We're not just a gym. We want to help change the future of Parkinson's disease.

Pain in everyday life: topic of well-being

pain and well-being

“How are you?” We get asked this question all the time and most of the time we answer with a short “Fine. And you?". Very rarely do we think about how we are doing. And what does it actually mean when we say I'm fine. What is behind our well-being?
When we understand what well-being means and how many facets it involves, we can actively take care of our well-being. And that holistically and with everything that goes with it. And maybe we'll manage to answer more differentiated and honestly at the next opportunity.

A very special advent calendar

We have an idea:

Did you know….
....that our body and its perception determines 80% of how we feel mentally;

….that a large nerve called the vagus nerve constantly reports whether the body is safe or in danger;

…. that when too much insecurity can make your body have trouble "shutting down," resulting in your immune system not working properly, your thinking chops, and you cruising through the world on autopilot?

Imagine if there were simple tools to give the body a feeling of security again. Together! Your child helps you, you help your child.

We invite you to join us on an inquisitive and playful journey that is funny for some, pushes the limits of others, but done seriously to glowing alertness and sparkling joy.

Here is the link to register* and please share it with all families and networks who work for families and/or chronic diseases and with dear friends and adults who are young at heart.

It starts on the 1st :-)

We are really looking forward to it - we were very creative and tested everything ourselves with our children.

Kind regards, the Longcovid-Holistic team,
Mareike Schwed - Tobias Gerost - Viola Tonn

Parkinson's, table tennis and what really matters

Thorsten Boomhuis: You all know that I am also a very ambitious person at the table tennis table. So if I'm going to a world championship, I'll hopefully have a hard time leaving the field to my fellow competitors for a long time to come. That's why my previous posts focused on the sporting competition.

But I always emphasize one thing: the tournaments, including the World Championships, are a means of public relations for PingPongParkinson! It's about becoming better known to those affected by reporting, in order to get even more of them to the table tennis tables.
