Detlev Friedriszik: "With movement against Parkinson's"

A lecture with hands-on exercises

On Wednesday, November 30.11.2022th, 126, a lecture event on the topic of Parkinson's and exercise will take place in Venloer Straße XNUMX in Casa Usera, organized by the Parkinson's self-help group in Cologne.

The main speaker is Detlev Friedriszik, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's 17 years ago. Since then he has been fighting against the relentless progression of the disease, trying to help others with his knowledge and experience and always staying positive despite all the odds.

His credo is "Instead of waiting in the corner in an armchair for new medicine, become active yourself and keep your mobility for as long as possible with sport". Always looking for the most suitable type of movement for him, he came across the so-called Smovey rings 14 years ago.

Smovey rings are a comparatively simple piece of sports equipment, imagine a ring in which three or four balls always move in the opposite direction to the movement of the ring.

Detlev Friedriszik quickly discovered the positive influence certain exercises had on the progressive stiffening of his muscles and the reduction in his range of motion.

Since then, he and his wife have not tired of convincing doctors, clinics, physiotherapists, senior centers and self-help groups of the effectiveness of this simple and effective piece of sports equipment with great success. For example, on the Lower Rhine, her initiative created the largest children's movement project in North Rhine-Westphalia, in which 30 schools and 30 day-care centers were set in motion.

In Rheinberg, a town with 30.000 inhabitants, an exercise project is currently being developed in which the fellow citizens, whether with or without physical disabilities, were brought into motion.

As part of the research for this article, I bought myself Smoveys and they have become an integral part of my daily movement exercises within a very short time. There are numerous exercises and workouts on YouTube, this one is my personal favourite:
