Parkinson's exercises, part 1

Stay active!

Stay active! is not only the leitmotif of the Parkinson Journal, it is also my very personal leitmotif.

What's more, it's my way of dealing with the disease. I firmly believe that with sufficient and correct exercise, you can slow down the process. But exercise is not only so important to me for this long-term goal. As soon as I feel that I'm getting into an off phase, I take action. That can take 15 minutes LSVT Big - be exercise - a tight one march around the block with a large arm swing, 20 minutes on the home trainer, weight training with the Thera-Band or 15 minutes Thai chi - Whatever, the effect is usually more immediate and lasting than that of the quickly thrown in Levodopa LT.

But for me it is by far not just about the short-term effect, what is really important is regular training. I am active (almost) every morning and afternoon for at least 30 minutes, but everyone can find the right amount for themselves.

It's not about replacing physiotherapy for me - I still take advantage of it - specifically to relieve tension, train my balance and the like. Physiotherapy is not a good substitute for my very personal rehabilitation sport . I would rather recommend the special rehabilitation sports offers of many sports clubs. So if you prefer to train in a group, you will definitely find what you are looking for with the search term “Reha Sport” on Google.

For all others the following applies:

No matter how far your Parkinson's has progressed, there are suitable exercises for every stage on the web. The best from my point of view will be presented at irregular intervals in the Parkinson's exercises section.

The first episode is based on a project by the pharmaceutical company Desitin. Desitin Arzneimittel GmbH is a European pharmaceutical company and specializes in sophisticated products for the Therapy neurological and psychiatric diseases.

Under the slogan "On top of Parkinson's" Desitin and Prof. dr medical Ebersbach, Head of the Neurological Specialized Hospital for Movement Disorders / Parkinson's in Beelitz-Heilstätten (Potsdam), developed the following exercises.

Have lots of fun with it.
