International PingPongParkinson VR Championship

Retrospect and Prospect

The International PingPongParkinson-VR Championship is the logical continuation of the PingPongParkinson®️ Virtual Reality Table Tennis World Championship.

The idea for a virtual reality championship was born through the COVID-19 pandemic; global lockdowns and restrictions on freedom of movement have made sporting events impossible, including the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games.

In this crisis, however, we have discovered a new opportunity - virtual table tennis.

There has been interest in virtual table tennis and corresponding computer programs since the early 2000s. The growth of eSports in recent years and the positive approaches in science and digital Therapy, have guided us in this courageous undertaking.

Eighteen months after the first PingPongParkinson®️ Virtual Reality Table Tennis World Championship, we decided to give it another try.

To be precise: we wanted to organize a first sports tournament for virtual reality enthusiasts and people with disabilities. This is how the PingPongParkinson®️ Virtual Reality Table Tennis World Championships (VRPWTTC) was announced on January 14, 2021. The date for the tournament was the
April 11, 2021, World Parkinson's Day.

Not only are we opening a new avenue for promoting camaraderie between people with disabilities who play table tennis, we are also reaching out to younger, more active pwp's (individuals with Parkinson's disease) through this technology.

And from June 05.06.2023th, XNUMX, our quarterly virtual reality Tournaments give everyone the opportunity to play from the comfort of their own home.

We play our tournaments on the ElevenTT table tennis VR platform, the possibilities of which go far beyond pure tournament play. It also allows inviting other family members or friends to play together, promoting that important social aspect that we all so desperately need.

"COVID-19 has changed our lives for better and for worse. Let's overcome the social distance and make friends around the globe." demands Nenad Bach, founder of PingPongParkinson® Virtual Reality.

Out of the top 18 in the world rankings of PPP VR players, 7 have already confirmed their participation. Among them the two finalists from 2019 and 2021, Thorsten Boomhuis and Jasper Jerslund and the founder of PingPongarkinson Nenad Bach. There are still starting places available and we look forward to every additional participant.
