“The postoperative score of the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) off medication was compared to the medication treatment baseline score, revealing percentage reductions from the mean of 84% for tremor, 70% for rigidity, and 73% for distal hypobradykinesia. All values for the treated page. Axial elements (for voice, trunk, and gait) were not significantly improved. PTT achieved 100% suppression of drug-induced dyskinesias as well as a reduction Painp <0,001), dystonia ( p <0,001) and REM sleep disorders ( p<0,01). The reduction in mean L-dopa intake was 55%. Patients reported a mean tremor relief of 88% and a mean global symptom relief of 82% on the operated side and a mean global symptom improvement of 69% for the whole body. There was no significant change in cognitive functions. The small group of bilateral PTTs after 1 year shows similar results compared to unilateral PTTs, but does not allow any clear conclusions at this point in time.

Conclusion:

MRgFUS PTT has been shown to be a safe and effective intervention for PD patients, treating all symptoms with varying degrees of effectiveness. The need to integrate the preoperative state of the thalamocortical network as well as the psycho-emotional dimension is discussed.”
