The Parkinson School is a special training or continuing education program tailored to the needs of people with Parkinson's and their families. It is designed to help those affected and their families to better understand the disease and to make it easier to deal with the challenges of everyday life. The Parkinson School typically imparts knowledge in the following areas:
- Medical understanding: Information about the causes, symptoms and progression of Parkinson's disease. Treatment options such as medication, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are also explained.
- Everyday help: Training on self-help, coping with everyday life and aids that can make life easier for those affected, such as walking aids or special exercises.
- Diet and lifestyle: Diet and physical activity tips that may help relieve symptoms.
- Psychological support: Information on how to deal with psychological stress caused by the illness, as well as on relaxation methods or stress management.
- Exchange and networking: An important component is often the exchange with other affected people and relatives in order to share experiences and support each other.
These training courses are organized in collaboration with doctors, therapists and specialized Parkinson's centers and are intended to help improve the quality of life of those affected.
