The problem isn't what people say to you. It's what they don't say.

When British neuroscientist and author John Stamford grew tired of the "medical" and "fuzzy" movies about Parkinson's disease, it was time for him to engage in an intimate patient-to-patient conversation.

He teamed up with Norwegian filmmaker and photographer Anders M. Leines in hopes of combining scientific expertise, artistry and personal experience with Parkinson's disease. Ultimately, the aim was to create an open, ruthlessly honest and, if necessary, also gloomy portrayal of the disease.

The Dark Side of Parkinson's is a small series of five films that explore aspects of Parkinson's disease that are rarely discussed openly. In its bluntness, it is unlike anything else available in the Parkinson's community.

This is sometimes painful and frightening - but as important as purposeful optimism is, it is just as important not to lose sight of the downsides. And that's exactly what THE DARK SIDE OF PARKINSON'S focuses on.

Since I had already produced a successful project with Anders M. Leines - at that time about his life with Parkinson's - it made sense that I should now also take responsibility for the German version.

As a little foretaste of what is to come in the next few weeks, here is the trailer for the series.
